New study sheds light on UV radiation’s role in ocular malignancies

Posted on

Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is a risk factor for various types of ocular malignancies, according to a study.

The study highlights strong evidence linking UVR exposure to the development and progression of eyelid malignancies and suggests a similar influence on conjunctival melanoma.

However, the relationship with uveal melanoma remains controversial. The findings emphasize the importance of understanding UVR’s mechanisms in ocular cancers to develop more effective prevention and treatment strategies.

“A correct and comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms of UVR in the pathogenesis of ocular malignant tumors can provide patients with more effective and selective immune regulation strategies,” the study authors concluded.
